Law School Preparation

The following is advice for admission into elite and top-tier

law schools.

For much of English-American history attorneys have been very well-read, articulate and cultured individuals. In the early 20th Century many traditional lawyers contributed to the Loeb Library.

How to prepare for an elite law school....

1) You should have at least 2 years of serious Latin study, preferably 4 years. This is the most important element. Common law is full of Latin phrases and expressions. Elite-educated lawyers know Latin and often look down upon the poorly educated who do not.

2) A lawyer must have good writing skills and must have a good working knowledge of syntax, which is best achieved by reading Latin and studying Latin grammar. Knowledge of Latin grammar will perfect your English grammar. See texts.

3) Have a good sense of the history (esp. Roman, British, European and American).

4) Take a course in logic.

5) Take courses in political philosophy and ethics.

6) Be familiar with the works of the Western Canon. (Reading List.) An attorney should be well-read and able to quote the great works.

7) Have a high GPA

8) Do well on the LSAT

Best pre-law majors for elite law schools:

Our research indicates that the following majors are the best pre law degrees:

1) Latin

2) Classics (Classical Greek and Latin)

3) Philosophy

4) History (a serious program -- which does European/American political, military and intellectual history -- not a "politically-correct" one)
